It was wonderful to be able to explore more of the National Park in summer. The Utoro side seems to get better weather! A very stunning place with lots of wildlife.
Very beautiful park. Beware there are bears.
My brother and I spent a couple days in/around Shiretoko in summer 2006 and had a magical experience ascending Rausu-dake and bathing in the Sandan hot springs alone at night after the climb. It's no wonder Shiretoko is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for this mighty temperate peninsula, jutting between the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Okhotsk, radiates a mystical aura from its stunning wilderness of volcanic peaks, pure waters hot and cold, sun and mists, and verdant forests brimming with wildlife.
Beautiful peninsula to visit in Autumn to see bears and salmon in action!
It’s a nice place. But! It’s so tiny. The walking area is quite limited. 90mn trail takes less than 30mn. They really don’t want you to be eaten by bears. But what if you really want to? I would love to have the choice.
There are real nature apart from human civilizations.
Summer is the best season in Shiretoko. It is not so hot even in the august afternoon.
In winter you can explore here only by taking part in the tour.
Beyond amazing, one must come to see this place. The earth is not just cities and people. Sometimes getting out of city life is needed but getting out and coming here takes it to another level.
It's a gorgeous and unspoilt natural wonderland. There are a great deal of closures due to bears. That is my only complaint. Otherwise, it is beautiful!!
